Getaway- ACULCO

1 October, 2016 - 6 November, 2016

Get away of the month - October 2016 - Aculco

Just a short drive away from Mexico City, discover this beautiful and charming town recently named “Pueblo Mágico”  which is nestled in the mountains of Mexico state and where you can enjoy its mild weather most part of the year.  Open a door to the past as this place maintains the features of traditional architecture, full of alleys, houses with large courtyards, corridors, quarry columns and cobbled streets. You can also get to know one of our most important ethnicities since local people still dress the same way the ancient Otomi people did with their simple garments and wool clothing, keeping their traditions almost intact through time.

Enjoy a quiet and calm walk as you discover part of its history. Do not forget to visit their public laundries that are more than 130 years old, the aqueducts, the constitution square with its kiosk, the parish of San Jerónimo, the Sanctuary of the Lord of Nenthé and House Hidalgo.

Since it is located in an important region of dairy production, you must taste all the variety of cream, butter, fresh cheese, plain or combined with different spices. Additionally, do not forget to try their tasty typical desserts known as “jamoncillos” and some artisan bread from the local bakeries. You will definitely love them and would even like to take some home.

If you want to have a little adventure, visit La Concepción and San Joaquín falls where you can practice some rappel. This water bodies that lay over basaltic stones are 15 meters high and are located 10 km away from Aculco town.

Mepot tip: experience a delicious barbacoa taco and a beef broth in the main market, truly delicious!
